Like most people I've always been interested in food and always had opinions on which are healthy and those which aren't. And like most I thought I had a reasonably healthy diet - I didn't eat much fat or junk food and I struggled to avoid chocolate. Indeed I thought I was quite healthy. Little did I know.
I did a science degree of mostly biological subjects, but none that were strictly nutrition. I was interested in animals and the environment and that led to my position at the EPA.
So I'm certainly not a trained nutritionist, and I never offer medical advice.
I do know about the Zone though, and I travelled to America to obtain my instructor certification from the ZonePerfect company started by Dr Sears who started it all. But that's not saying much, the Zone guidelines and principles are quite simple - if you've read a couple of the books you probably know as much as I do.
And I'm certainly not a health nut!1 I still eat junk and have a drink, probably more often than you'd think.
Nor am I trying to make others think "healthier." That's far too difficult anyway - heart failure or other near death experiences seem to be the prerequisite for that.
All I want is for people to make the right choices when they do make an effort to eat well, because a few small changes to our eating habits really is enough to dramatically improve our wellbeing. I just want people to have the right information in their heads.
